The Pleasant Hill R-III School District is located in northeast Cass County and serves a population of 8,300 patrons in a 75 square mile area.

The proximity of Pleasant Hill to the metropolitan area of Kansas City only 40 miles to the northeast attracts residents who are seeking a peaceful setting in the country with all the benefits of the city close at hand.  City and surrounding Cass County growth has nearly doubled in the past thirty years with the biggest growth in the last ten years.  Families are drawn to the area where a sense of neighborhood exists, providing a solid network of support from caring people.   “Country living” also attracts residents, as rural areas are dotted with new homes on small acreages.  Pleasant Hill is basically a middle class community with the majority of families having both parents working.  Agricultural, manufacturing, service and public sector opportunities translate into local jobs for approximately 2,000, but the area is largely a bedroom community whose many families utilize the district-operated Before and After-School Child Care program or one of the local child care services.

The district operates five campuses and a central office.  A Primary School serves pre-Kindergarten through Grade Two, an Elementary School sees Grades three and four, an Intermediate School housing grades five and six, a Middle School meets Grades seven and eight and a High School serves freshmen sophomores, juniors, and seniors.

Curriculum follows a systematic approach.  The main focus of education at the primary level is to provide students with a strong foundation in basic skills and to instill in young minds the desire to learn.

At the elementary level, students are encouraged to continue building on basic skills and to approach learning with eagerness and anticipation.

In addition to the basics, students at the middle school  have the opportunity to explore other subject areas including music, art, family and consumer science and business technology.  They also have opportunities to participate in student government and after-school clubs.

Pleasant Hill is home to a National Weather Service Center providing radar and forecasting to the local communities.
